Los Angeles based figurative oil painter, Ally Rae Peeples, centers her work around her fascination with the various ways people distort reality and how that affects human interaction and the transference of information.
Encircled by the current sociopolitical climate Ally Rae Peeples: Inherent Sin examines the burden of guilt and accountability within a corrupted society.
The exhibition comprises six new paintings and one charcoal drawing, pulling from historical references and familial motifs to confront the dangers present in the repetition of cyclical behaviour. Through her signature distorted figuration, Peeples explores the psychological disorientation that arises when navigating biased narratives amid global tensions that have accumulated over centuries.
The title Inherent Sin references the biblical doctrine that humanity is born with an innate predisposition toward corruption—an inheritance traced to Adam and Eve’s transgression. Rather than invoking redemption, the work interrogates how this condition manifests as misplaced guilt, deferred responsibility, and the illusion of innocence. The exhibition ultimately calls attention to the urgency of accountability proposing disruption as the only means of breaking the cycle for future generations.
