'Reverie' by Miranda Byk

Miranda Byk is a painter who lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Her approach often involves a mix of traditional techniques and a playful personal style that creates visually compelling pieces which invites viewers to contemplate both the aesthetic and conceptual layers of her work. Her vibrant paintings explore themes of identity, memory, familial relationships, and her connection to nature. Repeated use of common subjects from the natural world such as plants, dew drops, animals and insects set within mystical backdrops offers the viewer a look into a realm that goes beyond the mundane, challenging the relationship between reality and fantasy. Reflecting a blend of personal experience and broader historical narratives, Byk includes references from her childhood memories, children's literature and storybook imagery, as well as traditional folklore and mythology. Existing in the space between worlds, her work explores themes such as the passage of time, the cycle of life, and the ephemerality of existence.

In July 2023, Byk completed a residency with Moosey in Norwich, UK and in 2022 had her solo debut Mother, May I? at Sow & Tailor, Los Angeles.
