Ivan Seriy's "In Search of Light" is a reflection on the fragility and duality of the concept of "light." A nameless anthropomorphic boy who is searching for the light in a dark forest and finding it in unexpected places is the main character in this exhibition. This project does not have an obvious plot, but its context can be recognized through the eyes of the hero. The author deliberately does not reveal the background of the character, giving the viewer freedom of interpretation and room for personal reflection.
The main work, "Burning Bridge", features the character standing on a burned bridge, symbolizing the beginning of a journey. This is an escape from home. A special place in this exhibition is given to works with autobiographical memories of the artist. In "Milky Way," countless stars are reflected in the eyes of the character, and "Sea of Tears" is where he lies on his back, gazing at the night sky. These pieces parallel the belief that the Milky Way is most visible in the darkest times. Another mystical element in the series is the lunar rainbow, a rare natural phenomenon that appears when it rains on a full moon. The leitmotif of the exhibition is the image of a guiding star, although it is not literally portrayed, it remains an invisible yet vital light illuminating the way forward, like a compass pointing towards a bright future.
"In Search of Light" is about finding a path in difficult times, when even a faint light can become a reference point. In the work "Big Brother" a new context is revealed, where the author refers to George Orwell's "1984." Now light acquires new meaning, not only embodying hope, but also attracting attention. Despite the order of the works, one can see the connection between them: the boy in the dark forest is searching for light. In "The Fool and the Lightning," the character has a source of light - a jar with lightning - and realizes that "Big Brother" is watching him. He only notices this surveillance when he starts carrying his own light.
Ivan Seriy thus creates an allusion to the contradictions of our time, where the burning bridge in the title piece not only illuminates the path ahead, but also foreshadows danger.
