Greatest Yarmouth is a series that began during the first UK national lockdown in the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a celebration of the town I grew up in, Great Yarmouth. A reflection on its quiet transformation during a time of global stillness. The absence of people allowed me to fully observe and appreciate the spaces, structures, and atmosphere that shaped my memories and identity.

Deeply inspired by the music, fashion, art, and cultural identity of the 1990s and early 2000s, my visual language draws heavily from that era. I believe the environment you grow up in leaves a lasting impression on your creative outlook. That’s why this project became my first self-published work, an ode to the subconscious influences of my upbringing.

Like many British seaside towns, Great Yarmouth is changing to meet modern standards. But progress doesn’t always preserve character. This project became not just personal, but urgent: a way of preserving the visual heritage of a place that continues to evolve, even as it holds firm to the past.

All of the photographs in this series were hand printed in the darkroom... a deliberate choice to stay connected to the physical craft of image-making. It felt important that the process mirrored the subject: slow, considered, and rooted in tradition.
